Music festival to showcase various cultures
For its 17th edition, the Music and People Festival is once again bringing together a mix of intercultural music. The event invites spectators to discover all the richness of the music of Morocco, while passing through China, Mozambique, Argentina and Turkey.
Some 100 professional artists in Montreal will present their work from April 22 to 28 at the Maison de la culture Ahuntsic-Cartierville (10300 Lajeunesse Street, 1st floor).

During the 17th edition, it will be possible to meet Moroccan artist in residence, Hassan Boussou. This musician, in America for the first time, will present to the public the results of his collaboration with local musicians. He sings and plays the guembri, a three-stringed drum-lute.

Among the other artists coming to Montreal to take part in the festival will be Tandava, a Vancouver based group inspired by the traditional music of India and Bangladesh.

The Japanese percussion ensemble Kiyoshi Nagata from Toronto will also be at the event.
Port of entry for other musicians
The production and broadcast organization Musique Multi-Montreal (MMM), is the festival organizer. MMM revealed some 100 artists within the framework of its annual event and has supported several who presently have an international career, including Lhasa de Sela and Marco Calliari.
For comedian Jici Lauzon, spokesman of the event, "Musique Multi-Montreal is a home port, at the same time a launching pad for these musicians who arrive in the country and try to make themselves known in the professional artistic community."

During the seven days of the festival, the artists will be performing at Les Grands Concerts, Festival Cocktail Hour, Les Nuits MMM Nights and Shows for Families with Children. Info: www.musiquemultimontreal.com (Translated by Michael Beigleman)
