Hockey players wanted
For two years, local youth have not had the opportunity of playing in a hockey team but now the Ahuntsic Braves Association is in Bordeaux-Cartierville recruiting players.
Already active in the eastern sector of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, the Braves Association wishes to expand to Bordeaux-Cartierville. The disappearance of the l’Acadie Rockets Hockey Club in 2005 led the Braves to develop this new market. The Rockets Club did not have enough teams to be part of the minor league.
To help with the success of this initiative, the Braves Association needs financing. For this reason the borough gave a sum of $5,000 to the Braves hockey division. The amount was granted within the framework of the Social and Community Development Support Fund.
"Since there is some poverty in Bordeaux-Cartierville, a part of the budget will be allocated to help to reduce the cost of participation," said Martin Longchamps, president of the Braves hockey division.
The objective of the Ahuntsic Braves is to seek 100 additional young people. The association, founded in 1955, currently has 550 hockey players ranging in age from three to 21.
The courses, training and tournaments of the Braves take place at two arenas in the borough, Ahuntsic and Marcelin-Wilson and the Howie Morenz Arena in Park-Extension.
Registration
Registration for the next season takes place on June 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Braves office (9300 Saint-Denis Street) and August 13, at the same time, at Marcelin-Wilson Arena (11301 l’Acadie Boulevard).
The Ahuntsic Braves Association also has a soccer division where there are more than 600 players. (Translated by Michael Beigleman)
