Guinness world record for the longest dabke chain
A Guinness record for the longest dabke chain marked the 7th edition of the Lebanese Festival. With a call from the Tollab Federation, festival goers gathered in Marcellin-Wilson Park last Saturday to dance the dabke, a traditional line dance originating in the Middle East.
At the end of the evening, participants celebrated their triumph having beaten the Guinness record for the longest dabke chain in the world. Official representatives from the Guinness Book who came from New York exclusively for this occasion recognized this result. In all, 4,475 people danced the dabké at a challenge launched by the Lebanese students. This broke the last record set in 2007 in Palestine, which had involved 2,743 amateur and professional dancers. This challenge even exceeded the objectives set by Tollab, the Lebanese Students Federation of Montreal, who had hoped to bring together 3,500 people.

“The federation wishes to acknowledge, above all, the City of Montreal which strongly encouraged us to carry out our objective, and to all those who took part in this single great event of its kind,” said Louay Msaddi de Tollab. (V.L.)
