Football Cheetahs Purr-fect
Myles Gibbon finished the season with 25 touchdown passes, obliterating the all time passing TD record of 18 for a season, set by Pascal Trudeau of cégep Vieux-Montréal in 1985 and then tied by the late Vanier quarterback Kristin Pipe in 1998. (Photo: Martin Alarie)
Vanier College AAA football team completes its perfect season
Football Cheetahs Purr-fect
Much like the New England Patriots, the Vanier College Cheetahs are 8-0. The difference is that the Cheetahs just completed their perfect regular season while the Pats are facing the defending Super Bowl champs Indianapolis Colts today. With a solid 38-21 over the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars at Concordia University, the AAA football team finished in the first place.
Duraney White opened the scoring midway through the first quarter on a 32-yard touchdown pass from record-setting quarterback Myles Gibbon with Wiseborn Aboayge adding his first of 5 converts on the day. Gibbon then connected with Julian Bailey on an 11-yard touchdown pass as the Cheetahs jumped out to a 14-0 advantage. The Cougars scored a late converted touchdown to narrow the lead to 14-7 after the first frame. Gibbon then went to work once again in the second quarter as he hit Sanchez Deschamps with a 34-yard touchdown bomb. The stubborn Cougars fought back one more time with another major as the teams went to the locker room at the half with Vanier sitting on a slim 21-14 lead. Gibbon hooked up with his favourite target Deschamps early in the third quarter on an 8-yard touchdown toss. Aboayge added another convert and a 22-yard field goal as the home team built up a 31-14 lead after three periods. There was no further scoring until late in the fourth quarter as Mendy Cardichon broke loose for a 55-yard touchdown run. The Cougars rounded out the scoring with 15 seconds to play but it was a case of too little, too late for the visitors from the Eastern Townships.

The Cheetahs were led offensively by quarterback Myles Gibbon who completed 13 of 24 pass attempts for 213 yards and no interceptions. Mendy Cardichon rushed for 81 yards on five carries while Sanchez Deschamps hauled in three passes for 84 yards. Samael Lavaud anchored the Vanier defence with 13 tackles, including a quarterback sack.

The Cheetahs had a bye in the schedule this week and will begin the defence of their Bol d’Or title on November 10th.
